Change how a learner completes a resource, and preview the resource as learners see it, from the Content tab of a learning experience. Your settings apply to that learning experience only.
Before you start
You need the permission to edit the content of the learning experience. These are the default roles with this permission: Organisation Admin and Learning Experience Admin. The learning experience must not be archived.
To preview a resource, you also need the permission to view resources in your organisation. These are the default roles with this permission: Organisation Admin, Resource Admin and Learning Experience Admin.
Change the settings of a resource
Use Edit settings on a resource row to choose how a learner completes that resource in this learning experience.
Open the learning experience from Learning Experiences.
Select the Content tab.
-
Find the resource row. With multiple resources, it is inside a module.
-
Select Edit settings. A window titled "Resource settings" opens.
Choose a value in Completion type.
Select or clear Inherit completion.
-
Select Done.
Done only stages your change, and the save in step 8 applies it.
Select Save changes in the bar that shows "You have unsaved changes".
-
Select Save changes in the window titled "Save changes".
The window says "Your changes will go live for enrolled learners immediately, and progress will be recalculated."
You see "All changes saved" and the message "Changes are live for enrolled learners. Progress will be recalculated." The change applies to this learning experience only. The steps of the save are in Change the content and settings of a learning experience.
The options in Completion type depend on the kind of resource.
| Kind of resource | Options |
|---|---|
| Assessment | "Pass the assessment" and "Submit the assessment" |
| SCORM, xAPI, Adapt or Storyline package | "Finish the content". A package that is already set to "View the content" offers only that option, and the "Resource settings" window cannot change it. |
| Any other resource | "View the content" |
The field shows a "Recommended" tag when you choose the default for that kind. An assessment defaults to "Pass the assessment". An event does not show Completion type.
Inherit completion marks a learner as complete when the learner already completed the same activity in another learning experience. An assessment does not show Inherit completion, and an assessment never inherits a completion.
A resource that you add from the resource picker, or from the upload, link or text windows, starts with Inherit completion on or off, as the Inherit resource completion setting says. You find it under "Default Game Settings" in the settings of your organisation. You need the permission to edit organisation settings to change it. These are the default roles with this permission: Organisation Admin.
An assessment always starts with it off. Your choice in the "Resource settings" window replaces the default for that resource.
In the single-resource wizard, the Details step shows the same two controls. In the multiple-resource wizard, Edit settings shows once the resource is added, and Done saves the change at once.
Preview a resource
Preview a resource to see how it appears to learners.
- Open the learning experience from Learning Experiences.
- Select the Content tab.
- Find the resource row.
- Select the eye button, named Preview resource.
A window opens with the name of the resource as its title, and the resource shows as a learner sees it. A line under the title gives the kind of resource and says "This preview shows how the resource appears to learners." Select Open in new tab in the header of the window to show it in your browser. Select Close to return to the tab.
A web link has no eye button, except an https link to a YouTube or Vimeo video, which Learn:Go saves as a video and shows in the preview window. Select Open in new tab on the row to open the link in your browser. A placeholder row has no preview button.
For an assessment, the preview shows its name, its description and its questions. The options appear dimmed and you cannot select them. The preview has no submit control, and it records no attempt. When the assessment has no questions, you see "No content to preview."
Troubleshooting
If you cannot find Edit settings, check that the row is a resource row and that the learning experience is not archived. A placeholder, an evidence step and a legacy activity do not show it.
If a resource row has no eye button, the preview cannot show that type of resource, or the row has no resource behind it. The read-only Content tab, which shows for view-only access or an archived learning experience, has no preview button.
If you see "You don't have permission to preview this resource.", you do not have the permission to view resources in your organisation.
If you see "This resource could not be found.", the resource is not available for preview. A resource that a learner generated cannot be previewed.
If you see "Something went wrong loading this preview.", select Retry.
If you see "This resource type can't be previewed here.", the window cannot show that type of resource. Select Open in new tab in the window to open the resource in your browser.
If you see "Content blocked" with the message "This content is served over an insecure connection (HTTP) and has been blocked. Ask your administrator to update it to HTTPS.", change the embed code in the resource itself, because the Content tab cannot edit it. A person with the permission to edit resources in your organisation replaces each HTTP address in the embed code with an HTTPS address. These are the default roles with this permission: Organisation Admin and Resource Admin.
