Understanding course structure
The structure tree runs down the left side of the editor and lays out your whole course. It's grouped into four main sections: Introduction, Assessment, Categories, and Conclusion.
Introduction
The Introduction contains the Title Screen plus optional slides shown before and after the course starts.
- Title Screen — the course cover screen. Every course has one (see Styling and theming your course).
- Before Course Slides — optional slides shown before the course begins.
- After Course Start Slides — optional slides shown immediately after the course starts.
Assessment
Assessment holds your assessment questions and slides shown around them.
- Assessment Questions — the old "Warm Up": three quick questions that adapt the course to learner knowledge. Toggle on or off using the Disabled/Enabled switch.
- After Assessment Slides — optional slides shown after the assessment completes.
- Before Categories Slides — optional slides shown just before learners see the categories.
Categories
The bulk of your course content lives here. Categories are the highest-level grouping, like chapters in a book. When learners finish the introduction, they're taken to the category selection screen.
A category is made up of nested levels:
- Categories (folder icon) — chapters. A category can contain topics, activities, and slides. Every category must contain at least one topic.
- Topics (book icon) — learning goals or objectives. Learners prove proficiency by completing a topic's activities. We recommend no more than four topics per category.
- Activities (lightning-bolt icon) — clickable interactions that let learners apply what they've learned. Types include Card Flip, Hotspots, Matching, Fill In the Blank, and more.
- Slides (slide icon) — pages that present information only (non-interactive), in various media combinations of text, image, video, and audio.
By default, activities across a category's topics are presented at random. Topics can be configured to show only to certain users (see Branching content).
Conclusion
- Thank You screen — shown when the learner completes the course.
Results Dashboard — optional; shows the learner their score and completion status (if scoring is enabled).
Moving things around
Drag and drop components in the tree to reorder them within their group.
Use + Add Page at the bottom of the tree to add a new category, topic, slide, or activity.
