Notifications in Poet are in-app banners shown to your colleagues—other authors, administrators, and reviewers working in Poet. They are not emails, and learners never see them.
They are found in the top bar menu in Poet when you land on the homepage
The number denotes how many active notifications that you have at any specific time.
Clicking on the icon will show you the notification you have and the number tells you how many notifications you have
The Two Types (Levels) of Notifications
Course notifications
This type of notification only appears to people working on one specific course.
Use them to tell the people working on a course something they need to know before they start editing: that a course is mid-review, that content is awaiting legal sign-off, that a client has asked for a freeze.
How do I access and create them?
Course → Configuration → ADMIN PANEL → Notifications.
To add a course-level notification, click on the 'add notification' button
A pop-up modal appears to

Writing a good notification
Keep it to one sentence and say what the reader should do. "This course is in legal review until 3 October—please do not edit" is useful. "Please be aware of changes" is not.
The one place Poet does send email
Translation workflow events can send email, and only those.
That setting is separate, at Sidebar → ADMIN → Translation Settings → Notifications, and it is off by default.
If you want to be emailed when a translation finishes, that is where to turn it on. Nothing in the Notifications screens above sends email.
