From the dashboard, click Create New Course to access multiple ways to create a course:
Quick Start options
The course creation modal shows several quick-start options on the left sidebar:
Blank Course
For customers with a Poet Authoring licence (not OTS-only). For off-the-shelf courses, see the two OTS articles (add links here?)
Create a new blank course and build your structure from scratch.
- Enter the course topic or title. in the section "What are we teaching your learners about?"
- (Optional) Click "Start outlining" to sketch categories and topics now. Poet will pre-build your course structure, which you can always modify later.
- Click Continue.
The course will now be created and is ready for editing.
Express Build
From the dashboard, click Create New Course to access multiple ways to create a course:
Rapidly build courses from Off-The-Shelf (OTS) templates with pre-configured options.
- Enter New course name.
- Select Course Origin — typically "OTS Setup".
- Toggle Admin Only Course if needed.
- (Optional) Enter Custom Course Number and Case Number.
- Select template and course from the OTS library.
- Click Continue.
Templates
Start from a pre-built course template (Adaptive, Fixed Order, Small, Large, etc.).
- Browse available templates.
- Select the one that fits your course scope and pedagogy.
- Enter course details.
- Click Continue.
More Options
Additional creation methods:
- Upload Script — import a previously exported course.
- Duplicate Existing Course — copy and modify an existing course.
- Modular Course — create a non-adaptive modular course.
- OTS Library — browse the Off-The-Shelf course library.
- Upload Debug Export — import debug export files (admin).
To confirm the creation of your course. Open the course from the dashboard and the categories and topics (created in the previous step) are ready to edit.
