Activities are clickable interactions where learners apply what they've learned. They're essential for adaptive content because they generate the data that determines course branching.
Activity Types in Poet
Poet supports multiple activity types:
Card Flip — Learners flip cards to reveal answers (good for vocabulary and definitions).
Hotspots — Learners click parts of an image to reveal information.
Matching — Learners match terms to definitions or concepts.
Binary Swipe — Learners swipe or tap to choose between two options (true/false, agree/disagree).
Sliding Cards — Learners drag cards into correct positions or categories.
Slider — Learners use a slider to select a value along a spectrum.
Fill In the Blank — Learners type answers into text fields.
Scenario — Multi-step interactive scenarios where learner choices affect outcomes.
Configuring an Activity
- Open or create an activity.
- Edit the activity content directly (the interface auto-saves your changes).
- Click the Page Settings tab (or Configurations tab) to configure:
- Difficulty: Normal, Difficult, or Both.
- Attempts: How many tries the learner gets (if applicable).
- Feedback: Messages shown for correct and incorrect answers.
- Scoring: Point values for this activity.
- **Branching:** Show this activity to select users based on question data variables.
**Note:** All changes are auto-saved. You no longer need to manually save between edits.
Difficulty Levels
Every activity can be set to:
- Normal — for average learners.
- Difficult — to challenge experts.
- Both show both difficulty levels to all learners.
Learners' difficulty adapts as they progress:
- Answer a Normal question correctly → the next is a Difficult question.
- Answer a Difficult question incorrectly → the next is a Normal question.
Flex Editor
Modern activities are built in the Flex Editor — a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG builder using Blocks and Sections.
Older "legacy" activities show an Upgrade to Flex button. Use the Flex Upgrade Tool (Configuration → Admin Panel) to modernize many at once.
