The Variables Tool
lets you create and manage custom variables at course level for dynamic, personalized branching.
To add variables
Open your course, then in the toolbar open Configuration → Variables. [
Define each variable (learners never see this — it's for your branching logic):
- Variable Name — holds the user's response; pick something you'll recognise later.
- Variable Description — a note on what the variable is for.
- Answer / Value — Answer is the choice you'll pick when building branching logic; Value (optional) is what's stored/shown if the Answer text is long. Click + Add Variable Value for more options.
Click + Add Variable (bottom left) to add more variables.
- Click Save (top right).
To edit a variable. Open Configuration → Variables, edit the fields. Renaming a variable already used in branching breaks the link — update the branched content to reconnect it.
To delete a variable or value. Open Configuration → Variables; use × Remove Variable for the whole variable, or the trash icon for a single answer value. Deleting breaks any branching link — reconnect the affected content afterwards.
