Custom User Attributes can help you insert more metadata about your teammates. You can then assign content, like Guides and Paths, using those Attributes to get more granular control.
Why would I use Custom User Attributes vs. Groups?
Groups allow you to communicate and assign content to large teams, like "Sales" and even "All Employees".
Custom User Attributes allow you to target "Account Executives" in the "Sales" team who work in "San Francisco". When you need finer control, you could get that granularity using Custom User Attributes.
Adding a Custom User Attribute
To create a Custom User Attribute, admins can go to Settings, select Enterprise, and select “Custom User Attributes".
From there, select the button "+ Custom Attribute".
Give the Attribute a human-readable name, using letters, numbers, and spaces. Select "Save" to add the new Custom User Attribute. Add more Attributes as needed.
Please note that your custom user attributes cannot be the same as our default custom attributes (name, email, roles).
Assigning Custom Values to Each User
You can assign Custom Values for each user once you have added a Custom User Attribute. Admins can go to Users and select "Show custom fields".
The user table will expand to show all Custom User Attributes. Click on any value replace its contents. By default, empty values have "--" in their cell.
Assigning Content Based on Custom User Attributes
Now that you have Custom User Attributes and users in WorkRamp with values associated to those Attributes, you can assign content based on those values.
To assign content, admins can go to Content and select any Guide, Challenge, Path, etc. For example, with a guide, you can select the "Assign this guide" button.
Once inside, select "Advanced" Users/Group to assign and select the Attribute you'd like to assign with. Fill in one or more values to have a preview of matching users to your filter.
Keep adding Values and other Attributes to customize your advanced filter. Select a due date and "Save" the assignment.
Note: To assign by a custom attribute in the 'Advance User Assignment' field is a minimum of 3 at least characters.
Nice work! Now you have all the Users associated with your Advanced User Assignment filter(s) assigned to your content.
