Publishing locks your course content. We recommend publishing only after edits are finalized, reviewed, and approved.
Validate
Before you build or publish, click Validate in the Build menu to check for errors:
- Missing translations for certain languages.
- Incomplete pages or orphaned content.
- Broken branching logic.
- Missing required fields.
Each error is clickable — Poet jumps you straight to the page to fix.

Build
Click Build to create preview links for sharing and testing.
The Build dialog offers:
- Internal Preview — requires login.
- Public Shareable Link — no login required.
- Rebuild Preview — regenerate links after edits.
Start a Course Review (Optional)
Instead of exporting to Word, you can send your course for in-app feedback and approval using the Course Review Tool:
- From the Build menu, click Start Review.
- Choose Content review type.
- Add reviewers by name or email.
Confirm and start the review.
Reviewers work through the course in Poet, leaving comments and suggesting edits. The course enters a read-only Review Lock so content doesn't change while they're reviewing.
Publish
When you're ready:
- Click Publish.
- Poet validates your course again.
- Admins see toggles for Debug mode (troubleshooting) and Analytics (learner tracking).
- Confirm and publish — your course is live.
The course is locked; edits cannot be saved unless you unpublish first. If you need to edit a published course, you must unpublish it, make changes, and republish—which requires Learning Pool approval (especially for courses already deployed to learners).
Unpublish or Download
- Unpublish — remove the course from learner access (you'll be asked a few questions first).
Download — export as SCORM, xAPI, Full Backup, Script, Assets, or Translations.
Offline Builds
Offline courses contain no tracking and run locally on a PC without an LMS or internet:
- Click Download → Offline Build.
- Unzip the file.
- Open index.html in your web browser.
Opening an offline build
An offline build is a version of the course that contains no tracking or analytics and can be run locally on a PC without the need for an LMS or an internet connection.
When you download the offline course, you'll be given a zip file. Unzip this and open the file called index.html in your web browser.
